A traditional Thai massage is not a classic massage where only the muscles are kneaded. I work with my thumbs, palms, elbows and feet along fixed lines across the body, and combine that pressure with calm stretching movements. In Thailand those lines are called sen. In practice it comes down to firm pressure while I move your joints along with it, carefully.
What you lie on
You lie on a firm mattress on a special massage table. That table is heated, so you do not have to lie on a cold surface, and the treatment room has air conditioning. Even on a warm summer day it stays comfortable inside.
For a head, shoulder and neck massage you can also choose the massage chair. You then sit leaning forward with your head in a rest, which lets me reach the shoulders and neck more deeply.
Clothing
For the traditional Thai massage you keep your clothes on. Please wear something that sits comfortably and does not pinch. For the oil massage and the aroma massage you undress partly, because the oil is worked into the skin. I provide clean clothing and towels.
Hygiene
After every treatment the materials used are cleaned or replaced. I would appreciate it if you have attended to the usual personal care before you come. There is no shower in my studio and it is not necessary either: the Thai massage uses no oil at all, and after an oil massage you can simply let the oil absorb.
How long it takes
The shortest treatment takes 30 minutes, the longest two hours. For a first visit 60 minutes is a good choice: long enough to cover the whole body, short enough to find out whether this form of massage suits you. People who come with one specific complaint often choose half an hour of neck and shoulders. All durations and rates are on the prices page.
How it feels, and afterwards
A Thai massage is firm. That is part of it, but it should never be more than you find pleasant. Do say so during the treatment if it becomes too much or feels too light, and I will adjust the pressure. There is no need to wait until it is over.
Afterwards most people feel looser and calmer. The next day you may feel something resembling muscle ache, especially if it has been a long time since your last massage. That passes within a day. What to do after a treatment is described under after the treatment.
If you are unsure whether massage is wise in your situation, please read the medical indications first. For questions you can call 030 877 6157. I give massages to women only.
